Peri-articular Histiocytic Sarcoma in Bernese Mountain Dogs
The Alberto Vittone Award 2007, created by the SIBB (Società Italiana Bovaro del Bernese), was presented to our group the 10th of August 2007 in Burgdorf, Switzerland, for our study proposal:
Peri-articular histiocytic sarcoma in Bernese Mountain Dogs: a multi-centre retrospective investigation of the prevalence of this tumor and possible association with previously diseased joints.
A confirmation of such a correlation could lead to prevention and early detection of this specific tumour type on these specific locations. Together with ongoing studies by other groups, the results of our study may lead to a better insight in the development of this type of cancer.
Through this letter we would like to focus your attention on the start of this study. In order to have reliable results it is essential that the data of as many Bernese Mountain Dogs as possible are collected. Data from tumor bearing and non-tumor bearing dogs, still alive or passed away, are of equal importance. Information about the medical history of Bernese Mountain Dogs is collected through an internet survey. For this purpose a special website has been opened: www.bmdhealthsurvey.eu. The link to the online questionnaire, available in most European languages, can be found on this website.
The data of this European study are collected between the 1st of September and the 31st of December 2008. To obtain as much data as possible in this relatively short period of time YOUR HELP IS OF AN INEVITABLE VALUE. We hope you are willing to use the communicational opportunities within your society, such as the Society's website, sending a bulk e-mail to your members, and the Newsletter, to make Bernese Mountain dog owners in your country aware of this important study. We would highly appreciate it if you would be able to communicate '1' as the survey number within you society. We are able and willing to provide you with all the help you need to communicate this study, which includes an introduction text in your national language.
We hope to hear from you soon. Reply is possible, if you prefer in your national language, to [email protected] or [email protected]
Yours sincerely,
