42nd Annual
BMDCI Breed Championship Show
The 42nd Annual Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland Breed Championship Show took place on Saturday 27th May at Naas Racecourse in County Kildare as part of the BSD & Navan Group Show Weekend.
A glorious day awaited all at this lovely venue and a warm welcome from the Committee of the Club. Our judge this year was Group 2 Specialist, Martina Ellerova from Slovakia and an excellent entry of 39 dogs awaited her adjudication. Starting with the male classes and Marie Cahill and Valerie Hughes won Puppy Dog with their imported youngster, “Ivar Majowy Skarbiec” and he would go on later to win Best Puppy in Show. Linda and Graham O’Neill topped the Junior Dog Class with their homebred “Theobear Cronulla”.
Next class was Adult Dog and another success for Linda & Graham with their homebred “Theobear Banjora” who later went on to win the Reserve Green Star. Open Dog was won by Fiona Stafford-Byrne with her Polish bred Irish Junior Champion “Up to Date Von Romanchof”. Champion Dog Class was won by David & Jackie Benson with their Dutch import, “Ch Seanus De Zandvijer at Bernervalley” who would go on to win Green Star Dog and Reserve Best in Show.
On to the female classes and two lovely Baby Puppies having their debuts with the winner today being Fred Davis & Ailish Goonan’s Italian import, “High Oaks Once in a Blue Moon at Ballyford”. Linda & Graham O’Neill continued their great day by winning the Puppy Female Class with their Ukrainian import, “Fiesta Pride of Justin for Theobear”. Karen Cobbe and Valerie Hughes won the Junior Female Class and Best Junior in Show with their Ukrainian import, “Slava Ukraine Pride of Justin”.
Rachael Thompson and Jaimie Slacke Fitzpatrick topped the Intermediate Female Class with “Carraigbern She’s The One” and it was another “Carraigbern”, this time Karen Cobbe’s, “Carraigbern Relish the Moment” who won the Adult Female Class. Open Female was won by David & Jackie Benson with their Belgian bred, “Truly A Girl Van De Klaverhoeve at Bernervalley” and she went on to win the Reserve Green Star.
Champion Class was the final class of the day and it was won by Winnie and Eamonn Giffney with their Australian bred Champion, “Sennen Understandably Wicked at Seanri” and she would go on to win the Green Star and then Best in Show.
Linda & Graham O’Neill completed a very successful day by winning Best Breeders Group in Show with their “Theobear” group of dogs.
Later the judge was very complimentary about the quality of the Bernese on the day, so well done to all the exhibitors for the quality of their dogs and the excellent presentation. The Show was kindly supported by Ransconi Pet Products/Dr Clauders who supplied food for the winners and well done to the committee who supplied food for the humans !!
